Then it's over.
Just like that.
We're trucking along at such a breakneck speed that it seems so abrupt when it happens, but it seems like Christmas is over in the flash of an eye. Then we are back to reality. Our lives settle back into a routine, winter doldrums set in, and with a mental sigh, we get to the grind once more.
But it doesn't have to be like this. Just because the presents are unwrapped, the tree is down and we stop listening to Christmas carols non-stop doesn't mean Christmas is over--not really. Because we have the gift that keeps on giving.
The baby born in the manger 2000 years ago is that gift. All other presents will wear out, get holes, break down, crash, get stains, go out of style, or spoil. But Jesus is the gift that keeps on giving. When Jesus was born that first Christmas, Mary's life was never the same; indeed, none of our lives would ever be the same. Because of his birth, we have hope of redemption. Because of his life, we have freedom from the curse of the law. Because of his death, we have forgiveness for all our sins. Because of his resurrection, we have the guarantee of eternal life with him. Jesus is the gift that keeps on giving.
And the best part? Jesus is a gift we can share with others, over and over again. So during this season of Christmas, take time to enjoy the gift that God has given you. Jesus, the gift that keeps on giving. Merry Christmas!
