Summer is a time of change, for sure. Changing schedules for parents and kids, changing scenery on awesome vacations, and changing summer weather. We even change our styles, get haircuts and new clothes, and maybe grow a few inches (some of us vertically, some of us...in other ways!). This summer has been particularly full of changes for my husband and me. We are expecting a new little one in our family in December. He or she has already brought many new items and ideas to our house. We are excited about all the changes, but like anyone, apprehensive about what the future could hold for us and our child.
So what happens when the constant changes are not all we'd like them to be? Our lives seem like an amusement park ride sometimes--often fun and exhilarating, other times frightening and dizzying. Maybe some of the changes that have happened for you or your family this summer are not so exciting: broken bones, ruined vacations, lost jobs--the list could continue. We might wish to scream, "Stop the ride! I want off!" Or we may just want things to go back to the way they used to be.
One thing is for certain--no matter the scenario, however much unexpected situations can catch us off balance, we have a changeless God who holds us in his hands. He is the one constant presence in our lives. He never leaves, never sleeps, never changes his mind about how he feels toward us. While we are here on earth, God remains by our sides, guiding us through good changes and bad. And even better, God, through his Son Jesus, has given us a changeless future in heaven with him.
At the start of this new school year, there are many changes sure to come. Some are known to us, like new teachers, and new classrooms. Others may surprise us along the way. No matter what, don't change your reaction. Join me in holding on to our Changeless One, our heavenly Father.
May he bless our upcoming school year.
